Three new Aplicare products very well received at 2006 Infusion Nurses Society annual meeting in Reno
MERIDEN, CT (May 15, 2006) –– Aplicare, Inc. announced today that response to its three innovative new products launched at the 2006 Infusion Nurses Society (INS) annual meeting in Reno was extremely positive. The conference, which had approximately 1,000 attendees, included a forum for manufacturers to exhibit their products.
The three new products were packaged together as a complete system – the Aplicare Advantage™ Dressing Change System™. The first innovation in procedural kits in the last 30 years, the normally thin, tightly folded sterile drape has been transformed into a non-slip pocketed “wrap” which, when opened, automatically presents components in their order of use. As a result, inservice time is reduced, procedural compliance is enhanced, and component sterility is easily maintained.
“Our System was created with the belief that the only meaningful way to impact and reduce CRBSI’s is to create an environment where the needed components can be used in an intuitive and repeatable manner consistent with their design. With the introduction of the Dressing Change System, Aplicare has changed the paradigm of procedural kits and trays from simply providing clinicians with an assortment of individual components to a ‘System’ which holistically addresses the needs of the clinician and patient throughout the procedure – beginning and ending with hand washing; driving compliance and consistency throughout.”, said Bruce Wilson, Jr., Director of Sales and Marketing.
The second product introduced was the first unit dose packet of alcohol-based hand gel capable of being ethylene oxide sterilized. “By our solving the challenges of packaging an alcohol-based hand gel into a unit dose package capable of withstanding the rigors of ethylene oxide sterilization, procedural kits sterilized with ethylene oxide can now contain one or more doses of antiseptic hand gel. Having hand sanitizer available in the kit ensures clinicians are reminded to wash their hands and enables them to do so without leaving the patient’s side.”, said Greg Art, Director of Product Development.
The third new product introduced by the company at the show and available as part of the Aplicare Advantage™ Dressing Change System™ was ExCelAP®, a unique antiseptic combining 7.5% povidone-iodine and 72% isopropyl alcohol. The company shared data from independent laboratories which demonstrated that this new formulation is faster acting and less irritating than combination 2% chlorhexidine gluconate / 70% isopropyl alcohol formulations while exhibiting antimicrobial persistence for seven days. The product provides the added benefit of visualization of the prepped area upon application. Many clinicians were pleased to learn that combination povidone-iodine and alcohol formulations are now classified as “preferred” in the new INS Standards of Practice.
