Questions about Chlorhexidine Gluconate (CHG)

  1. What are the contraindications of CHG? How does this compare to PVP-I?
  2. What did Dr. Maki’s study, cited by the CDC in it’s classifying 2% CHG formulations as “preferred”, actually test?
  3. Doesn’t the CDC state that that we must use ChloraPrep® for maintaining catheter sites?
  4. If the CDC states that a 2% CHG formulation is "preferred", then why is there a need for combinations products such as ChloraPrep® and Chlorascrub™, which contain CHG and alcohol?
