Can Povidone-Iodine (PVP-I) be used in or near the eye?

Povidone-Iodine (PVP-I) solutions containing 7.5% or 10% PVP-I should not be used to directly prep the eye. However, PVP-I paint solutions can be used to prep around the eye.  This should be done with care to prevent solution from entering the eye.
