What is the difference between using Alcohol and PVP-I formulations separately compared to using a formulation where they are combined? Is the combination of Alcohol and PVP-I better compared with applying Alcohol and PVP-I separately?
Generally speaking, procedure time is reduced with the combination. In the specific case of Aplicare’s ExCelAP®, in addition to PVP-I and Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA), the formulation also contains an acrylate which forms a film as the product dries on the skin. This film tends to enhance efficacy by keeping iodine in contact with the skin for an extended period of time vs. traditional PVP-I solutions.
