Can ExCelAP® be used on neonates?

No.

Standard 41 (Access Site Preparation), Practice Criteria M, and Standard 51 (Catheter Site Care), Practice Criteria H of the Infusion Nurses Society’s 2006 Infusion Nursing Standards of Practice state…

For neonates, isopropyl alcohol or products containing isopropyl alcohol are not recommended for access site preparation.  Povidone-iodine or chlorhexidine gluconate solution is recommended but requires complete removal after the preparatory procedure with sterile water or sterile 0.9% sodium chloride (USP) to prevent product absorption.

ExCelAP® contains contains 72% isopropyl alcohol.
